Pleasing the party in power was good not only for business, but for one’s health in the USSR under Joseph Stalin. After Stalin’s death in 1953, composer Dimitri Shostakovich could write music without fear of reprisal and denunciation. In the spirit of artistic freedom, the evening will include a “dunk the dictator” tank on the Greaves Concert Hall commons during intermission and a post-concert vodka tasting / meet and greet.
