Artist Rebecca Nava Soto explores themes of ritual, language, and landscape through her use of mixed-media sculptural painting and ephemeral installations.
Rebecca Nava Soto’s (Cincinnati, OH) work explores themes of ritual, language, and landscape through her use of mixed-media sculptural painting and ephemeral installations. In an act of decolonization, her work follows a continuum of Mesoamérican indigenous art history. Her art is Influenced by research into glyphic writing systems and material inspired by collective and ritualistically made wood-shaving alfombras during religious celebrations in the Midwest immigrant communities she grew up in –materials and processes which have origins that predate European influences. Her most recent projects raise awareness and invite public support of contemporary indigenous regeneration initiatives in the United States and Mexico.
The opening reception for Ritual of Imagination and Reconnection will be held on Friday, September 15, 6-8 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
