The Christ Church Cathedral choir will perform at Christ Church Cathedral, Fourth & Sycamore, downtown Cincinnati, on Sunday, December 2, at 5:00 p.m.
This beautiful service is a wonderful way to begin the season of waiting for Christ’s birth. It is built around the seven Great “O” Antiphons that were traditionally sung at Vespers on the seven days prior to Christmas and eventually became the seven stanzas of the familiar Advent hymn “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel.” During the service, music, Scripture readings, and prayers invite us to reflect on each of the antiphons. Seven gorgeous banners bearing the “O” Antiphon symbols, each carried in procession while its corresponding antiphon is sung, make this a visually as well as musically rich experience. Music sung by the choir will include: O Sapientia (Robert Ramsey), Rorate coeli (Leo Nestor), Es ist ein Ros’ entsprungen (arr. Donald Cashmore), Canite tuba (Francisco Guerrero), E’en So, Lord Jesus, Quickly Come (Paul Manz), Thou Shalt Know Him (Mark Sirett), and Ave Maria (Robert Parsons).
