The classic Tony-Award Winning musical inspired by Miguel de Cervantes and his novel “Don Quixote”. This unique “Quarantine Edition” was filmed entirely during the COVID-19 lock-down, and is truly an Impossible Dream made Possible.
In light of the current Stay-at-Home directive, Anderson Theatre & Film will be using YouTube Premiere to present this 57th AHS Spring Musical. YouTube Premiere lets everyone watch and experience a new video together, including live comments and chat. A public watch page will be created for this event, and the URL will be available on our Facebook page and website well in advance of the event.
Man of La Mancha tells the story of Cervantes and his fellow prisoners as they perform a play about “mad” knight Don Quixote while awaiting trial by the feared Spanish Inquisition. Comparing himself to the knights of old, Quixote refuses to give up his idealism in the face of harsh reality, and the strength of his beliefs touches the prisoners, especially the woman he calls his Lady Dulcinea.
With music by Mitch Leigh, lyrics by Joe Darion, and book by Dale Wasserman, the original 1965 Broadway production won five Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The principal song, “The Impossible Dream”, remains a popular standard to this day, and the celebrated score also includes unforgettable songs like “I, Don Quixote,” “Dulcinea,” and “I Really Like Him”. Powerful, hilarious, and heartbreaking, “Man of La Mancha” celebrates the perseverance of an old man who refuses to relinquish his ideals or his passion.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
This "Quarantine Edition" of the Wasserman-Leigh-Darion musical was created in full cooperation with the closures and stay-home orders put in place this season by Ohio Governor Mike DeWine. Our Theatre Department benefits from close ties with our Film Department, so rather than completely cancelling our performance, we chose to reinvent it. In a normal year, this would be a ticketed event, allowing us to cover the many costs involved with creating the high-quality theatre that our community enjoys so much. But this year's event is being shared with you free of charge! We are excited for our student's creative work to be celebrated with a wider community in this way. We recognize that art is something we can all turn to in times of crisis to ease our stress, give us hope, and inspire our better natures. If you enjoy this performance, you, too, can help us keep this dream alive by donating to the Anderson Theatre Department. Your gift will allow us to cover costs and continue providing Theatre training and experiences to our students in the Fall and into the future, and will be GREATLY appreciated. For information on Donating to Anderson Theatre, email AndersonTheatreBoss@gmail.com or visit our website (AndersonTheatre.com). Or you can donate directly through Venmo @Friendsof-AndersonDrama. Thank you!!
