Art-Inspired Writing Workshop - Collecting Calligraphy: Arts of the Islamic World - at CAM

Presented by Women Writing for (a) Change at Cincinnati Art Museum, Cincinnati OH

Art-Inspired Writing Workshop - Collecting Calligraphy: Arts of the Islamic World - at CAM

Contemplate and consider this beautifully intricate illuminated calligraphy through writing. Be inspired as the art opens a window into the culture of the artist, and into your own creativity.

Women Writing for (a) Change partners with the Cincinnati Art Museum for this art-inspired writing circle. Both new and experienced writers are welcome for this third program in the 10 part series, Write Around the Corner–Exploring Cross Cultural Expressions.

Participants will combine the experience of viewing this beautiful exhibit with their own creative written expression. A Cincinnati Art Museum docent will provide an overview of Collecting Calligraphy: Arts of the Islamic World, and answer questions. Writing prompts will suggest potential starting points for each writer’s own journey to discover, question and understand more about the art, the traditions and the lives of the people behind this exhibit.

Join facilitator Katherine Meyer for this third program in a ten-part series, Write Around the Corner–Exploring Cross Cultural Expressions. The series is designed to explore and consider a variety of creative expressions and thought, and to foster deeper understanding and awareness of different racial, ethnic and cultural traditions, through viewing and responding creatively through writing. Bring your favorite writing materials or use supplies provided.

From Cincinnati Art Museum:
“Richly illuminated folios from poetic and historic manuscripts will be displayed alongside pages from the Qur’an, calligraphic practice sheets, and political decrees in Collecting Calligraphy: Arts of the Islamic World.”

–This program is supported by the thousands of people who give generously to the ArtsWave Community Campaign.
