Asian Music from the Indian Subcontinent

Music dates to the 13th century AD and has overtones of Persian, Turkish, Egyptian, and Indian literature, culture, and socio-political history of the region.

SUFIYA

On Saturday, April 6, NSPA hosts “Sufiyana,” which encompasses an eclectic repertoire of classical and semi-classical songs such as Sufi music, Ghazals, and Bhajans from diverse composers such as Meerabai, Tulsidas, and Nizammudin Walia.  The three outstanding musicians, Janab Arshad Ali Khan (vocal, Kirana Gharana), Vidushi Sahana Bannerjee (sitar, Rampur-Senia Gharana), and Pandit Subhen Chatterjee (tabla, Lucknow Gharana; Grammy nominee), will come together for this special concert (5:30 to 8 pm, April 6).
