Marta Hewett Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of works by Heather Jones and Jeffery Cortland Jones. Partners in life each artist represents their unique style while giving a nod to the subtle influences they have on each other’s work.
Heather Jones is a painter and accomplished textile artist who has produced an impressive number of quilts over the last several years. In her newest work blurs the lines between painting and textile art. Jones has fused her talents for composition and color with the traditions of handmade textiles. The result is a bold combination of shapes and textures that elegantly hang with the intent of a painting. In his continuing series of 14 x 11 paintings Jeffery Cortland Jones works both sides of his translucent Plexiglas foundation concealing and revealing layers of under-painting. He draws qualities from the peeling layers of paint on concrete walls, the scratches left behind by skateboards on handrails, the flecks of metal that shine through as surfaces are eroded over time. The paintings derive complex depth from the veils of medium that construct the final work.
