CSO: Petrouchka + Tchaikovsky

Presented by Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra at Music Hall, Cincinnati OH

Nov 08 - 09 2019
CSO: Petrouchka + Tchaikovsky

Was Tchaikovsky gay? Historians don’t agree, but his Violin Concerto in the hands of a master yields universal acclaim.

Tchaikovsky’s dazzling Concerto, once thought unplayable, is a rendezvous with some of the composer’s most moving and memorable melodies.
Guest violinist Gil Shaham is one of the most talented, expressive and exuberant musicians in the world today. He’s a true joy to watch as well as hear.

Stravinsky’s Petrouchka is a virtuosic musical tale evocative of Pinocchio. Julia Wolfe won the 2015 Pulitzer Prize for Anthracite Fields, a work about early-20th Century Pennsylvania coal-miners and their families. She’s known for her “evocative orchestrations and varied sound palettes” (The New York Times).
