Democracy & the Press

Three Associated Press photojournalists will discuss their work and the challenges of covering the American democracy at moments when it is being tested — such as after George Floyd’s death and on Jan. 6.

NKU’s Scripps Howard Center for Civic Engagement in partnership with the Kentucky Humanities Council’s Democracy & the Informed Citizen presents: DEMOCRACY & THE PRESS: A Six@Six Lecture

Associated Press photojournalists Julio Cortez, Kim Johnson Flodin, and Andrew Harnik in conversation about how the free press plays an essential role in creating an informed democracy.

Mr. Cortez and Mr. Harnik both covered the storming of the Capitol on Jan. 6. Mr. Cortez also was part to the AP team that won the 2021 Pulitzer Prize for their coverage of the George Floyd protests. Both are based in the Baltimore/DC area.

Ms. Flodin, whose news career began with a camera in her hand, is not an AP editor, directing photo coverage. She is based in Chicago.
