"Ilu l'agbara" (Drums are Powerful) Drum Circle

Drum Circle: “Ilu la gbara” (Drums are Powerful)” “Ilu L’agbara” (Drums are powerful) Drum Circle is a 3-day African rhythm experience for all ages and abilities (no drumming experience needed) for the purpose of learning, expressing love, Joy, and appreciation of other cultures. Baba Jubal, a master drummer, and performer from Columbus will facilitate this event.

Dates:

December 8, 2023

Time: 6.00pm – 8.00pm

Day 1

Baba Jubal will take participants on a musical journey to Africa. Creating a preliminary design that can be modified or edited; Applying the design to the frame of the drum; Wrapping the drum in the final step of construction. Once the Box drum is completed participants are ready to learn “One World Rhythm 1-10”.

December 9, 2023

Time: 10.00am -12.00pm

Day 2

Participants will learn and create African dances from Nigeria, Senegal, and Ghana. This will be facilitated in collaboration with Bi-Okoto Teaching /Performing Artist (TPAs).

December 10, 2023

Time: House opens to the community from 4.00pm

Performance runs from 6.00pm – 8.00pm

Day 3

Culminating events for the community which will feature special performance by baba Jubal, Bi-Okoto TPAs and workshop participants. Audience interaction/question and answer will be open after the performance.
