In this virtual kick-off event, interdisciplinary artist, and People’s Banner Workshop facilitator Migiwa Orimo will present the strategic benefit of having “embedded artist-activists” in social justice demonstrations by sharing her experience working as an artist with various Yellow Springs activist-groups.
Hear from organizers of the YS Speaking Up for Justice about their 25 consecutive weeks of rallies, teach-ins, and civil disobedience organized last year in Yellow Springs. A panel of Cincinnati area activists from BLM, AAPI, LATINX, INDIGENOUS, LGBTQ will also share their experiences, challenges, and hopes for future actions.
In Love, Rage and Solidarity created by Migiwa Orimo, interdisciplinary artist and facilitator of the People’s Banner Workshop, is a six-part programming series that will bring various social justice activist groups, artists, and individuals from the Greater Cincinnati area together. Through two round table conversations and four Open Studio banner and flag making sessions, the People’s Banner Workshop hopes to create a space for activists and artists to cross pollinate ideas and strategies to explore how their creative solidarities might have a greater social impact on both the local and wider communities.
