This course is the beginning of a yearlong ongoing curriculum that focuses on drawing in the first quarter and then builds to include printmaking, collage, painting and sculpture through Winter and Spring quarters. During studio art classes, students will learn to use a variety of art materials, processes and ideas through the guidance of the teacher. The studio environment is intentionally conducive to safely exploring, creating and working in a fun, collaborative space. During the fall quarter, drawing skills are the focus of the curriculum. Drawing is the foundation of the art program for a number of reasons: it perfects fine motor skills in the younger student, discipline in all ages, and teaches students to see objects and the world around them in ways they never have before. Students are active participants in their learning, choosing projects, materials and ideas to suit their particular skill level and experience, under the guidance of the instructor. If you have been through the art studio before, you can still continue the class (many students do!). There is much more to be learned and experienced! Veteran students will be offered new projects and challenges. Grades 5 – 8. Register online at http://www.musicartdance.org/studio-art-class-middle-school/ or call us at 513-948-1900.
