Twelve mural-sized paintings provide an intimate look into the lives of Black women.
On Her Shoulders features 12 mural-sized paintings and other new works from internationally-acclaimed artist and poet Annie Ruth, conveying the heart and soul of Black women. With the paintings, Ruth hopes to provide a lens through which the community can gain a better understanding of Black women’s experiences.
“As Black women, we have always had to lift as we climb, often bearing the weight of the world on our shoulders, pushing through trauma, injustice and abuse to achieve,” said Ruth.
The exhibition builds a greater understanding and appreciation of our differences and provides a springboard for multigenerational and multicultural story sharing and conversations.
On Her Shoulders is included with museum admission.
On Her Shoulders is presented by ArtsWave and supported by the City of Cincinnati, Greater Cincinnati Foundation, Fifth Third Bank and Duke Energy.
