With the help of Cincinnati Shakespeare Company, we explore Beaumarchais’s controversial 1784 play Le Mariage de Figaro and Mozart’s now-famous operatic interpretation.
Beaumarchais’s play Le Mariage de Figaro, the second in the comic “Figaro trilogy,” swirled in controversy after its 1784 premiere in Paris, leading to a ban across Europe. Mozart’s now-famous operatic adaptation debuted in Vienna only two years later. With the help of guest opera singers and favorite actors from the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company stage, we’ll explore the revolutionary themes that lie beneath the charming and clever shenanigans of these comic works.
This event is presented in collaboration with Cincinnati Shakespeare Company.
