A rare semi-staged production of St. Hildegard von Bingen’s sacred music drama; Ordo Virtutum features the struggle for a human soul between the Virtues and the Devil.
Collegium gets Medieval! Composed by St. Hildegard von Bingen around 1151 for performance by the cloistered nuns in her abbey, Ordo Virtutum is a sacred drama featuring the struggle for a human soul between the Virtues and the Devil. Interpolated into the mesmerizing plainchant and mystical words of Hildegard are shouted passages by the Devil, for whom access to God’s gift of music is starkly denied. Performances of this work are extremely rare, so don’t miss your chance to experience Collegium’s semi-staged regional premiere.
