A virtual performance of this new rock musical comedy created for families of all ages — SLEEPING BEAUTY is packed with humor, heart and a powerful message.
Through the world-premiere commission by The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati, audiences near and far will love this twisted take on the classic fairy tale. The impulsive and courageous Princess Aurora (who prefers to be called Rory) defies the age-old tradition of ‘Princess School’, and decides to carve her own path. But along the way, she encounters her evil Fairy Godmother, Magnilda, who placed a curse on her when she was a child, causing her to fall into a deep sleep. This sleeping beauty will awaken only with a kiss from her true love. Once she is fully awake and ready to rock, the feisty Princess Rory begins a whirlwind quest to protect the kingdom, save her Prince, and defeat Magnilda who transforms in front of our eyes into a giant 30-foot dragon!
Story and book by Ken Jones, music by Jamey Strawn and lyrics by Christine Jones. Directed by Ken Jones and choreographed by Eric Byrd. Kevin Frisch and the Frisch Marionette Company designed the 20-foot dragon appearing in the production. Produced by The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati in April 2019 at the Taft Theatre.
