Step back into Mozart’s time as we highlight not only his works, but those of his contemporaries: friends and rivals.
Who was the better musician? Who was more popular? Can you even tell who’s who? From Joseph Bologne to Leopold Mozart to Antonio Salieri of Amadeus fame, we will try to re-establish a level playing field for some of the famous composers of the era.Routinely described as “gifted” and a “prodigy,” clarinetist Julian Bliss has performed with orchestras around the world and at the request of Queen Elizabeth. He will perform Mozart’s beautiful clarinet concerto, featured in the movie Out of Africa. A composer who preferred his works to feel true-to-life, Mozart’s father Leopold’s “Peasant Wedding” features commonly heard instruments of the time, including the bagpipes and hurdy gurdy. To close Summermusik the CCO will perform Mozart’s emotional Symphony No. 39. This work is the master at his finest.
