Family bonds are not only emotional – they can also be musical.
In this program we focus on the unique family dynasties of the Mozarts, Mendelssohns and Bachs. Felix Mendelssohn’s brilliant sister Fanny was often overshadowed by her brother’s fame. Many common musical threads tie together her Overture and his Italian Symphony. Although lesser known than her brother, Nannerl Mozart was arguably the most musically talented member of the family and served as Wolfgang’s inspiration for his Concerto in E-flat Major for two pianos written for them to perform together. Playing as a duo for over two decades, the husband and wife Silver-Garburg Piano Duo, Sivan Silver and Gil Garburg, have been praised for their “pianistic fireworks” and “exceptional sensitivity” at the keyboard. Actors from Cincinnati Shakespeare Company will share excerpts from composers’ letters and diaries that will provide insights into their interpersonal relationships.
