The Internet is Distract—Oh Look a Kitten!

Join us for a three-week Performance Academy production of The Internet is Distract—OH LOOK A KITTEN! This high-energy comedy explores the rabbit hole of distraction that we go down every time we go online! High-schooler Micah only has 60 minutes to finish her paper on The Great Gatsby. She just needs to check a few facts on the internet first. Unfortunately, the web is a nefariously wacky place where boxing cats, Russian spies and competitive streaming services threaten to take over Micah’s schoolwork, or worse. Will she finish her paper and escape with her life before the school bell rings?

In this cyber-themed adventure, gain experience in blocking and rehearsal practices while putting together a full, non-musical production. Performers will develop their skills in acting, movement, improvisation and design, and they will create technical elements of this play — set pieces, costumes, props — from scratch.

This process-based performance program is for the theatre enthusiast who wants to experience the production of a play from beginning to end. During each full-day camp session, campers will take technique and special skills classes and rehearse a play to be performed with limited sets and costumes for friends and family at the end of the week. Performance Academy programs include three-week, two-week and one-week full-day camps.

We emphasize the hands-on, educational experience of performance and do not require an audition to enter the program. Roles will be assigned on the first or second day of camp and lead roles may be double cast to increase the learning experience for student performers. Performers will be organized by age for classes and small group rehearsals. Space is limited to a first-come, first-served basis.
