Explore the history and current state of the wine industry in Ohio.
Celebrate the Taft’s first open Tuesday of the season with this presentation by author and speaker Cheri Brinkman. Nicholas Longworth, who lived in our mansion on Pike Street from 1829–1863, is often referred to as the father of the American wine industry. Longworth’s Catawba grape vines were planted along the banks of the Ohio and up to Mount Adams. Brinkman will explore the history and the current state of the wine industry in Ohio in this agri-history program designed to make audience members more informed consumers of the wonderful wines currently produced in the Buckeye State. It seems only right to drink a toast to old Longworth with a taste of Catawba as part of the light refreshments provided.
