The Mainstage season opens with a unique opportunity to explore the human condition through song. Under Your Wing is a musical arts and community experience focusing on mental health. In partnership with the Cincinnati Music & Wellness Coalition, world-class artists share musical stories of life, love, struggle, and triumph, all through the lens of physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
The event begins with a pre-concert lecture about mental health by Laura Dailey (Lindner Center of HOPE) and Arlene de Silva (Cincinnati Music and Wellness Coalition) that provides a real-world and scientific grounding for the concert. The concert will feature Tom Cipullo and Les Murray’s song cycle Black Dog, which explores depression; André Previn and Toni Morrison’s cycle Four Songs for Soprano, Cello, and Piano; and additional works. During the concert, performers will speak about the works they are performing to provide the audience with a deeper connection to the work and a look at the artistic process. Composer Tom Cipullo will also be in attendance to speak about his piece Black Dog. Following the concert, Arlene de Silva and Laura Dailey will lead audience members in a HealthRHYTHMS session. HealthRHYTHMS is a recreational music making program designed to reduce stress in participants.

Let us transport you around the world through different cultures, languages, and musical styles. Join us as we explore the influences that inspired songs from hundreds of years ago, decades ago, and the ones that inspire songs today.
At this classical music experience, we won’t shush you for making noise. We hope you’ll come before the concert to gather with old friends and make new ones. And we especially hope you’ll stay after the concert to meet the artists, enjoy a drink, and continue connecting with people there for the same reasons you are: to be part of a community.
