Woman's Art Club of Cincinnati 127th Juried Show Online for the First Time

Although we had to cancel this exhibit at the Barn, for the first time in 127 years, you can still experience some top-notch artwork by women artists in the Tri-state area online!

The Woman’s Art Club of Cincinnati has put a new, and necessary, twist on this year’s Annual Juried Exhibition. As many galleries are doing this spring, the exhibit will take place online.

In 1892, the Club’s first year of existence, entry in the show was only open to members of the Club. The goal was to showcase the best work by members and encourage the artists to strive for achievement. If a member was juried (accepted) into the show twice, they advanced to an upper level of membership.

In the new millennium, the show expanded to include entries from women artists in the region around Cincinnati. The show and sale that was planned for 2020 is the Club’s 127th Annual Juried Exhibition. President Dodie Loewe announced that awards of cash and merchandise exceed $6,000 this year. Out of 157 artists who submitted 266 pieces of art, Juror Beth Schwier, a noted artist from Indianapolis, selected 60 pieces.  Nineteen award winners were selected by Professor Elizabeth Neal, an assistant professor at Thomas More University and Gallery Director of the campus’s Eva G. Farris Gallery. The planned venue, The Barn in Mariemont, is closed through May 1 following Governor Mike DeWine’s Coronavirus “stay at home” order. However, “the show will go on” as a virtual exhibit on the Club’s website, www.womansartclub.com. The exhibit will be posted through the month of April.
