Are you enjoying the holiday season? The endless race to an imaginary finish line filled with ‘we must fit this in’ cookie making, chaotic school parties, frantic gift selection and wrapping, well-intended house decorating that dissolves into ‘just put it anywhere,’ racing to the last day of work to realize you still have so much more to do, and sending one more holiday card to that person you didn’t think was still on the list…does this sound familiar at all? If yes, then you should definitely take a time out and schedule a date night to go see The Second City’s Holidazed & Confused Revue at the Playhouse in the Park. It is running through January 8th and it will quite simply complete your holiday season.

The show is a delightful adult timeout in a crazy holiday season that will make you roar with laughter, nod your head in emphatic agreement, and occasionally nail a point so close to home that you define your New Year’s resolutions on the spot. It is a jam-packed (almost) two hours full of seasonal sketches that include Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza and everything in-between. If you are anything like us, date nights must include a delicious dinner from any of the amazing downtown/OTR restaurants. On this particular evening, it was Nicola’s, which always delivers and set a great tone for the evening (in addition to being right down the hill from Mount Adams). Once you arrive at Playhouse in the Park, you can extend the fun by indulging in a pre-show and then intermission drink from the bar. Clearly this place knows its audience!

While I refuse to ruin any of the surprises or skits for you, know that the Second City lives up to their reputation and delights from the moment the show begins. They took the time to get to know Cincinnati and the show delivers like a city insider. They engage the audience frequently and spontaneously, so be prepared to join the fun. By the time your cheeks are sore from smiling and your ribs hurt from laughing, they bring it all home with a finale skit that will take your breath (and heart) away. So grab your tickets now and find a moment to take a time out with The Second City’s Holidazed & Confused Revue! It will leave you laughing, crying and remembering that while the holidays may be confusing and chaotic, they are truly a delight.
