Who are you?
I am a former ArtsWave staffer with a deep-rooted love of theater.
What do you do?
Currently, I am the Senior Grants Officer for The Jewish Foundation of Cincinnati.
How long have you been Fringing?
I have been seeing Fringe shows for about 8 years. I have been a Full Frontal Fringer for the past 4 (this year marks my fifth Full Frontal Fringe.)
What’s your favorite genre of Fringe shows?
I have always described Fringe as “an hour of ‘OMG, that’s the most amazing piece of theater I’ve ever seen!’ or ‘Well, that’s an hour of my life I’ll never get back!’“, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Even some of the real dogs deserve to be seen and discussed. That said, I’m really drawn to the shows that tell a moving or provocative story, sometimes without even utilizing any dialogue (eg. the incredible Grim and Fisher by the Wonderheads of Portland, OR from a few years back.)
When you’re not Fringing, where can we find you out and about in Cincinnati?
Typically you can catch me on the occasional Friday or Saturday night in OTR grabbing dinner, window shopping at Elm and Iron or the new create-your-own-scent candle shop, and then having a nightcap at Below Zero, or perhaps in a darkened movie theater at Newport’s AMC or The Esquire (I’m also a huge movie buff,) or at an Ensemble Theatre or Know Theatre production. Otherwise, you’ll find me being a homebody in Anderson Township with my husband and four cats.

My Top 3 Fringe Picks for 2016

My Left Teeth
This is a Paul Strickland Presents… production.  Paul is an incredible storyteller, singer-songwriter who has always impressed!  From his Trailer Park trilogy to Andy’s House of Blank, Paul intrigues, entertains, and leaves the audience wanting more.  And he even moved to Cincinnati from Indianapolis because of the creative community here. What’s not to love?

SHEnatra!
Frank and Dino trapped in the bodies of women? In Purgatory? And performed by Bowman and Yarborough, AKA The Fabulous Haydell Sisters? Enough said!

Graphic
This is produced by Cincinnati’s own PONES, Inc., which produced one of the most powerful pieces of theater I’ve ever experienced at Fringe (Traffik in 2014). I’m always intrigued when a company moves you outside of the theater seat and into an environment which it then manipulates to tell you the story. This work incorporates a number of ArtWorks murals into individual pop-up stages at which audience members will hear the stories behind the walls. This is Fringe at its finest.

Honorable Mention: Furlesque
It’s a show that takes place in a burlesque club for “furries.” If you don’t know what “furries” are, you should avoid this one at all costs. Otherwise, color me intrigued!
