Who are you?
Paul Strickland

What do you do?
When I’m not Fringing, I’m a full-time writer and performer of theater and comedy.

How long have you been Fringing?
My first Fringe was 2009.

My Top 3 Picks for Fringe 2016

So, I’ve decided that I should abdicate myself from recommending groups that have been here before, and my partner [Erika Kate MacDonald]. SO, I feel like I can’t OFFICIALLY recommend Erika Kate MacDonald’s “Ice Candle” even though it’s astonishingly good, and I shan’t recommend “Darlings” by Animal Engine, which I saw in Orlando Fringe and wept openly after laughing a lot. Oh, and I guess I shouldn’t recommend “My Left Teeth” even though it stars Miranda McGee and Annie Kalahurka, so everyone should see that one, too. I tour the Fringe Festival Circuit every year with one or more of my Trailer Park Trilogy (Ain’t True and Uncle False, Papa Squat, and Tales Too Tall for Trailers), and have been lucky to meet quite a few talented artists elsewhere that happen to be performing for the first time here in Cincy this year… so without further ado:
1.  Antonia Lassar:  Post-Traumatic Super Delightful
What an amazing show. The subject matter is SO heavy, but is dealt with SO tastefully and artfully. This was my favorite show at Edmonton Fringe Festival in 2015.
2.  Peter Aguero:  Daddy Issues
Nevermind that this guy is a Moth Storyteller and host, this is one of the most gripping, completely real, and also true one-person shows on the circuit. Artful vulnerability. It’s a masterclass in great storytelling.
3.  The Fourth Wall:  Fruit Flies Like a Banana
This show is incredibly fun and technically sublime. 3 performers, all classically-trained professional symphonic musicians, perform 30 pieces of music, WHILE dancing and moving, in 60 minutes. It’s a must-see brilliantly executed fun night out, and something you CERTAINLY won’t see elsewhere. Which should be what Fringe is ALL ABOUT, right?
