The Opera Express

Program description

The Opera Express is a mobile opera theater offering performances in unexpected places. It’s a taste of opera delivered by the opera truck!

Our first performances in December 2015 at the Whole Foods Market in Rookwood Commons were a giant success. Over the course of a Thursday afternoon and a Friday evening, 150 people—some opera lovers and some who had never experienced live opera before—boarded the truck and watched a 15-minute show. The performance featured soprano Tara Morrow, tenor Josh Wheeker, and baritone Tyler Alessi. Through narration and song the singers told the story of how opera productions come together. Excerpts from four operas were featured, including La Traviata and The Pearl Fishers.

Look for more pop-up performances coming soon! Follow Cincinnati Opera on Facebook and Twitter for location announcements.

Lead funding for The Opera Express is provided through a generous grant from OPERA America.
