In celebration of Covington’s bicentennial, The Carnegie opens its Gallery season with two exhibitions highlighting the community and history of the city of Covington.
The Carnegie’s 2015 – 16 Gallery Season kicks off with the opening of two exhibitions with Covington ties - "We, Covington" and "Extra Credit: Documenting Higher Level Art 2008-2015."Located in the Ohio National Financial Services Main Gallery and organized by Terence Hammonds, "We, Covington" addresses overlapping aspects of Covington that build up to a portrait depicting the people, places and personal memories that comprise the city.Participating artists include: Terrence Hammonds, Anissa Lewis, Tim McMichael, Wally German, and Harmony Denlinger.
Located in the upper Carnegie galleries will be "Extra Credit: Documenting Higher Level Art 2008-2015." HLA will take over three of the upper-level galleries, creating a unique environment in each. A mural painted directly onto the walls of the Duveneck Gallery simulating a classroom setting will anchor the exhibition. The mural is representative of the work HLA has been doing with Covington Independent Public Schools, transforming blank walls into inventive and inspirational spaces. Also in the Duveneck Gallery will be photos of some of the more than 60 rooms painted by HLA between 2008-20015 throughout the district.
In the Rieveschl Gallery, the work displayed will be a combination of photos, video, and time-lapse photography highlighting the intense process HLA engages to create each new installation. Participating artists: Members of HLA, including Danny Babcock, Scott Beseler, Robby Burgess, Matthew Dayler, and Jules Itzkoff.
