Exhibition Opening Reception: The David and Kim Dougherty Collection of American Paintings

Curated with the assistance of Patricia and Chuck Weiner, this well-rounded collection embodies selections of paintings from historically significant 19th and 20th century American Painters. An opening reception will be held at the Eisele Gallery on Friday, June 22ndfrom 5pm-8pm. The exhibition will run from June 22nd– August 11th.

The Dougherty Collection is predominantly comprised of American painters, many of whom were tied to Cincinnati and the surrounding region. Landscapes by Hudson River School artists and colleagues Robert S. Duncanson and William L. Sonntag are among some of the renowned names in the collection. Cincinnati American Impressionist Painters Henry Potthast and Charles Kaelin are exhibited in the collection, along with paintings by Art Academy of Cincinnati graduate and professor Paul Chidlaw. Thomas C. Lindsay, Anthony Thieme, Edmond Darch Lewis and Worthington Whittredge are among other noteworthy landscape artists included.

The exhibition incorporates portraits by prolific Cincinnati painters Frank Duveneck, Henry Mosler and Elisabeth Nourse. Among the portraits is a unique painting of Frank Duveneck in a Sombrero by Herman H. Wessel.

It is Eisele Gallery’s objective to expose not only its clients, but the community to impressive, historically significant and attainable paintings. Throughout the duration of the exhibition, the gallery will be donating a portion of the sales to the Cincinnati Art Museum.
