Schubert's Death and the Maiden - CSO Chamber Players

Schubert's Death and the Maiden - CSO Chamber Players

Presented by Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra at Music Hall

Having returned home to his Bohemian roots from his time in America, Dvořák marked the occasion with a return to the folk music and idioms of his homeland.

This, his final String Quartet, reflects the composer’s pure joy on returning home. Schubert’s penetrating Death and the Maiden quartet conveys the terror,  pain, acceptance and final struggle (depicted by a whirling, insistent tarantella) with Death.
