The Akropolis Reed Quintet, an adventurous chamber ensemble, will perform at Memorial Hall in OTR on Sunday, September 30 at 3 p.m.
Combining oboe, clarinet, saxophone, bass clarinet and bassoon, the Akropolis Reed Quintet takes listeners on extraordinary musical adventures. Winner of the Fischoff Gold Medal in 2015, they have released three studio albums and commissioned more than 24 works from composers in seven countries.
Fanfare Magazine reports, "The quintet plays with imagination, infallible musicality and huge vitality," while the San Francisco Chronicle describes them as "Pure gold, shot through with tenderness and grace." Matinee Musicale is pleased to present the Akropolis Reed Quintet in the first recital of its 106th season.
