From Mendelssohn to Piazzolla and Wayne Shorter to Stravinsky, Imani Winds infuses new music and new voices into the modern classical idiom. In 2015, they premiered a new work by Frederic Rzewski. Their 2017 – 2018 season included premieres by Valerie Coleman, Reena Esmail, Nkeiru Okoye, Courtney Bryan and Pulitzer Prize winner Henry Threadgill. A concert-length new work by Imani’s French hornist Jeffrey Scott was written for the ensemble, jazz trio, and string quartet. The Passion musically explores the idea of a fictitious meeting between JS Bach and John Coltrane.
