Birthday Parties FAQ

When can I have a birthday party at Cincinnati Museum Center?
Parties at the Duke Energy Children's Museum and the Museum of Natural History & Science can be scheduled on Saturdays at 10 a.m., 1 and 3 p.m. and on Sundays at 11 a.m., 1 and 3 p.m.

How far in advance do I need to schedule a birthday party?
You may schedule as soon as you decide that you would like to host a party here, but you must schedule at least two weeks in advance. Because party dates fill up, we advise that you schedule at least a month in advance.

What is the payment procedure for birthday parties?
Payment is due at the time of registration with a credit or debit card.

Who is included in the 25 guests per party?
Everyone is included in the 25 guests allowed in the party room, except children under 1. The birthday child and birthday family, child guests and adult guests are all included. This restriction is due to the size of the party rooms. There is a $10 charge for each guest over the 25 included in the party package. If your party is going to exceed this maximum, a larger party room can be arranged for no more than 40 guests. The charge for the larger party room is $75.

When can I get into the room?
Parents can meet the presenters 15 minutes before the scheduled start time for the party, even when that is before the opening time for the museum. (The presenter is actually present an hour early.) For Duke Energy Children's Museum programs, meet the presenter in the Children's Museum lobby. For Museum of Natural History & Science programs parties meet at the ticket taker station near the door to the museum. Guests should gather at the same location five minutes before the start time.

Can I bring extra food?
Cake, a drink and pizza provided by Cincinnati Museum Center is all that can be accommodated within the party time. No outside food is permitted inside the museums. The Pizza Party option is available in the private birthday rooms. Lunch can be purchased at the food court, and tables are set up in the Rotunda for picnics. Custom parties can be arranged through our Special Events department, but cost at least $300 for a party for 15 people. If you want to provide a special cake or drinks because of dietary restrictions, this is acceptable.

When can I have a pizza party added to my party?
Pizza Parties are only available at Saturday 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. parties and Sunday 3 p.m. parties. With this option, your party has the room for an extra 30 minutes. The option is not available to all party time because of time restraints.

How much pizza do we get with the pizza party?
The package comes with five pizzas in either cheese or pepperoni (typically 3 cheese and 2 pepperoni). Pizzas are cut into 12 slices. Additional beverages (either juice or punch) are also included.

What if I want to add an OMNIMAX® film to the party?
If you would like to see a film in the OMNIMAX® Theater with the party, there are two options: The Public Film and the Special Film. For the Public Film, you can bring your entire party, up to 25 people, to any of our regularly scheduled OMNIMAX® shows. The film will be scheduled either one hour prior to your party’s start time or two hours after your party’s start time. The cost is an additional $125. For the Special Film, your child can choose the film that they would like to see from our collection. Please call or check our website for the list of available films; the film will be scheduled for 10 a.m. The cost is an additional $250.

How do I get my tickets for the OMNIMAX® film?
If the film is scheduled to begin prior to the party, please have all guests meet the presenter in the Rotunda 15 minutes prior to the start time of the film.  All guests will be given a ticket at that time and escorted into the theater.  If the film is scheduled to begin after the conclusion of the party, the tickets will be dispersed during the party.

Can we stay in the room after the party?
Museum parties run one hour and 15 minutes, but the group can potentially stay an extra 15 minutes (with no charge). Depending on the availability of the room later in the day, we may be able to hold presents and leftover cake while you visit the museum.

What if I need to cancel the party?
When you cancel more than 14 days before the party, we refund your payment in full; if you must cancel 14 or fewer days in advance there will be a fee deducted, which increases the closer the cancellation is to the party date.
