The Legacy of August Wilson

The Legacy of August Wilson

Presented by Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park at Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park

The ground-breaking voice of African-American playwright August Wilson has influenced a generation of contemporary playwrights to take the torch and tell the stories of black America. From Dominque Morisseau’s "The Detroit Project" (a trilogy of dramas that examines the sociopolitical history of Detroit) to the historical surrealism of playwright Branden Jacob-Jenkins (a 2016 MacArthur Fellow), the impact of Wilson’s pioneering work continues to resonate in American theatre. Join us for a celebratory performance of the playwrights who were most inspired by the work of Wilson, as scenes and monologues from their work are performed by local artists. This event is free and open to the public, but registration is required.

The Playhouse Perspectives series is supported by a generous grant from Roderick and Barbara Barr.
