Time Out for Take Five at Music@BCM

Presented by Behringer-Crawford Museum at Behringer-Crawford Museum

COVINGTON, KY – The second in Music@BCM’s 2019 concert series features “Time Out,” a Dave Brubeck Quartet tribute concert performed by Rick VanMatre with the Phil DeGreg Trio, at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 30.

Saxophonist and composer VanMatre’s artistry spans a wide array of styles presented in numerous concerts, jazz club appearances and symphonic jazz concerto solos, including performances with the Cincinnati Pops.  Jazz pianist DeGreg, a seven-time nominee for CityBeat’s Cincinnati Entertainment Awards, has produced 13 CDs, and his textbook “Jazz Keyboard Harmony” is used in universities throughout the world.

VanMatre and DeGreg share a musical career history: both have taught at the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music, VanMatre as the former director of jazz studies for 30 years, and both are Cincinnati Jazz Hall of Fame inductees. They will be joined by two other members of DeGreg’s trio, bassist Aaron Jacobs and drummer John Taylor. The Phil DeGreg Trio has been a fixture on the regional jazz scene for more than three decades, including 17 years accompanying national and international jazz artists at Cincinnati's famous Blue Wisp Jazz Club.

Concerts are held in BCM’s outdoor amphitheater at 1600 Montague Road – Devou Park, Covington KY 41011.  Doors open at 6 p.m. with refreshments available for sale, and the concert runs from 7 to 9 p.m.  Concert-goers are invited to bring folding chairs or blankets for seating. In case of inclement weather, the concerts will move indoors.

The Music@BCM series continues June 6 with Leroy Ellington’s Sacred Hearts and then each Thursday through August 15 with the exception of July 4. Guests are encouraged to check the museum’s website, www.bcmuseum.org, or call 859-491-4003 to confirm the schedule.
