Man of La Mancha tells the story of Cervantes and his fellow prisoners as they perform a play about “mad” knight Don Quixote while awaiting trial by the feared Spanish Inquisition. Comparing himself to the knights of old, Quixote refuses to give up his idealism in the face of harsh reality, and the strength of his beliefs touches the prisoners, especially the woman he calls his Lady Dulcinea.

With music by Mitch Leigh, lyrics by Joe Darion, and book by Dale Wasserman, the original 1965 Broadway production won five Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The principal song, "The Impossible Dream", remains a popular standard to this day, and the celebrated score also includes unforgettable songs like “I, Don Quixote,” “Dulcinea,” and “I Really Like Him”. Powerful, hilarious, and heartbreaking, “Man of La Mancha” celebrates the perseverance of an old man who refuses to relinquish his ideals or his passion.
