(RESCHEDULED) The Stories We Tell: Women in Music

(RESCHEDULED) The Stories We Tell: Women in Music

Presented by Cincinnati Choral Society at Armstrong Chapel

This will be a concert celebrating women in music and the arts in this year celebrating the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage.  Our concert name comes from the title of the poem serving as the text for a work of music we’re commissioning for this concert.  The poem was written by Laurie Lambert, a local female poet who came to us through an organization here in Cincinnati called Women Writing for Change. Ellen Harrison, a female composer who teaches at UC/CCM, has set Laurie’s poem to music for performance by CCS.  Notable works also planned for this concert include “Kentucky Psalms” by Alice Parker and “Two Suffragette Songs” by Gwyneth Walker.  The Hawthorne String Quartet will accompany portions of this program and have solo performance pieces.  The concert will also include performances by Suzanne Bona (WGUC) who will also emcee.  With this program, we leverage the wealth of talent available in the Cincinnati area to share the stories of women through composition, poetry and musical expression.  These are stories and works fostered both in our region and beyond brought to life through this performance.  Also for this performance, it seemed only appropriate that our assistant director, Lisa Peters, take ownership of this concert cycle from CCS’s artistic director, Phil Clary.
