Viva Voce Artist Conversation: Mental Health and Self Care in the Arts

Presented by ArtWorks at Online/Virtual Space

Join ArtWorks for Viva Voce, a series of creative conversations with Artists and ArtWorks’ Alumni. Today, the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky region has a global reputation as an arts destination and is full of talented working creatives. ArtWorks invites you to connect with Artists who are creating groundbreaking works. Hear Artists speak about their artwork and current issues in this series, and we invite you to join the conversation.

Three artists discuss their work which supports positive self-image and mental health through art. Brent Billingsley has developed his practice by working with youth in hospital settings. He has build programs to support youth who are on extended stays to improve their experience and self-image through the art. Kate Tepe is an artist and designer who has used gameplay through her work. In 2018, Tepe partnered with ArtWorks to design a game that would start conversations about mental health to normalize this conversation among teens and young adults. Ben Kaplan, MD, MPH is an incoming resident physician in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of North Carolina Hospital in Chapel Hill, NC. Outside of his clinical work, Ben is an avid illustrator and cartoonist who often uses his work to encourage conversations around mental health and social justice.
