Leathercrafting and Textile Recycling for Kids

Leathercrafting and Textile Recycling for Kids

Presented by Clifton Cultural Arts Center at CCAC at Every Nation Cincinnati Church

In order to reduce fabric waste, students will first learn about the harmful effects of fast fashion. Each child will be asked to bring in an old t-shirt to turn into a reusable tote/grocery bag, which will involve some light sewing and/or creative knot-tying. Next, they will craft their own Native American Shaman-inspired medicine bags out of scrap leather and leather cord. They will explore cutting, stitching, ripping, and pinning to their heart’s content, and will end by creating a unique design of their own choosing with leftover fabric and the techniques they’ve picked up over the four-week class.

This after-school class is for students in Grades K-2; pre-registration by December 27, 2021 required. All Teachers and Class Participants must follow CCAC’s Covid-19 Requirements for Participation when attending class in-person.
