3:00 p.m. | "Monarca - Lost Butterfly (In Memoriam)" contemporary dance with film by Gabriel Martinez Rubio
"Monarca - Lost Butterfly (In Memoriam)" is a contemporary dance piece that attempts to make the audience aware of, then reflect upon the immigrants who disappear during their immigration journeys using the monarch butterfly as a symbol.
4:00 p.m. | "Namba: A Japanese American's Incarceration and Life of Resilience" documentary by Emily Momohara with Q&A
“Namba: A Japanese American’s Incarceration and Life of Resilience,” tells the story of May Namba, who was among the 120,000+ Japanese Americans held at internment camps from 1942-1945.
Also on display, through September 22 in the Everyday Freedom Hero Gallery, is Brent Billingsley's powerful mural "I'm Listening...".
All events will be held in the Harriet Tubman Theater.
Funding for these events comes through ArtsWave’s Black and Brown artist program. ArtsWave, the region’s engine for the arts, created the program to provide financial support to artists of color in the Cincinnati region to continue to interpret the themes of our times.
