Delaware-based artist, Billy Colbert, has a long and rich history of creating multidisciplinary work including painting, sculpture and videography. Colbert also owns one of the largest archives of historical footage of the lives of everyday African Americans of any institutions or individuals in the country, which he often culls to create work. Through his artwork, Colbert explores the unintended consequences of race in American culture, creating episodic tales of Black culture using juxtaposition, humor and transposed imagery.
Colbert teaches art at Delaware State University and has shown across the country and is included in several collections including the University of Wisconsin at Madison; the National Academy of Sciences; the Museum of South Texas, Corpus Christi; and the African American Museum in Dallas, Texas
