Bending the Arc

Bending the Arc

Presented by Fluidity CCCC at Hebrew Union College

On April 23 at 5:00 pm, Fluidity partners with the Ohio Innocence Project (OIP) at Hebrew Union College. Fluidity will present a concert intended to bring awareness to inhumane, wrongful deaths and reclaim the humanity of seven Black men through Joel Thompson’s Seven Last Words of the Unarmed. This work will be inlaid with the sacred music of Faure’s Requiem. The performance will conclude with Shelton Ridge Love’s beautiful arrangement of We Shall Overcome. Through these pieces, we will seek to convey peace and hope in the midst of tragedy. Our project, entitled Bending the Arc, is inspired by a famous Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. speech "Remaining Awake Through a Great Revolution." In his speech, Dr. King states: “We shall overcome because the arc of the moral universe is long but it bends toward justice."

Prior to the performance, we’ve invited a select group of recently exonerated community members and OIP representatives to speak. They will inform and educate the audience of OIP’s impact in their lives and in our community. A portion of the funds raised from this event will aid in the rehabilitation and support of recently released felons in their paths to rejoin society; a much-needed service in our community.

Following the performance, a reception will be held where patrons can talk one-on-one with OIP exonerees, learning more about their personal experiences, their rehabilitation journey, and the impact of financial generosity. We look forward to having you join us in making a difference as we give back to the needs of our community.
