Adhering to the theme of the conference, CURRENT, Antra Sinha and Khanjan Dalal have invited artists from diverse cultural identities to respond to the idea of ash from their cultural traditions or individual daily life as an interpretation in their work.

We seek to explore the underlying force which motivates artists to create with this idea - Raakh which is the Hindi work for 'ash.' The subject of ash as a theme for this exhibition is very broad and holds many possibilities in how artists might respond to the theme. Ash holds meaning throughout the world in many different guises. Its relevance to ceramic processes is clear, whether in the mixing of glazes or effect of surface qualities for example.

This exhibition seeks to expand our understanding and create unusual connections regarding the importance of ash in literal, practical, and metaphorical manners across diverse, global cultures.
