Join us as we attempt a deep dive into the genealogy and genetics of the Bach family and explore the question: How much of a composer’s greatness is gained through training versus how much is in their genes? “The Bachs: A Musical Dynasty” presents works by Bach’s great-uncle, Johann Bach; his brother, Johann Christoph Bach; and his sons, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach (child #5) and Johann Christian Bach (child #18). Paired with the music of the Bachs is a Summermusik co-commissioned flute concerto by Grammy-nominated composer Zhou Tian. The concerto was written for soloist and international flute superstar Mimi Stillman, who was the youngest wind player ever admitted to the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia at the age of 12.
