Amina Edris & Pene Pati, soprano & tenor in recital

Presented by Matinée Musicale Cincinnati at Memorial Hall OTR

Tenor Pene Pati has been hailed as “the most exceptional tenor discovery of the last decade” (Opéra-Online) after his early debuts as ll Duca di Mantova (Rigoletto) at San Francisco Opera under Nicola Luisotti and Percy (Anna Bolena) at Opéra National de Bordeaux under Paul Daniel. In 2022, he won the International Opera Awards 2022 Reader’s Choice Award.

Widely recognized as one of the most exciting artists of his generation, the last few seasons have brought Pati many important debuts including L’elisir d’amore (Nemorino) at Opéra National de Paris; Roméo et Juliette (Roméo) at San Francisco Opera, Opéra Comique and Opéra National de Bordeaux; La traviata (Alfredo) at Staatsoper Berlin, Dutch National Opera and Bolshoi Theatre and Lucia di Lammermoor (Edgardo) at Teatro San Carlo di Napoli.  On the concert stage, Pati joined Franz Welser-Möst and The Cleveland Orchestra in Verdi’s Otello (Cassio), Hans Graf and Tonkünstler Orchester for Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde and Mikko Franck and Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France for Beethoven’s Symphony No.9.

Soprano Amina Edris has been hailed as a “revelation” (Forum Opera) and praised for her “lustrous” tone (Opera News). Born in Egypt and raised in New Zealand, she has blended her cultural background to create her own unique artistic identity, making her one of opera’s most intriguing young stars.

Ms. Edris made her professional debut in 2015 with Opera San José as Susanna in Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro. After completing post-graduate studies, she was accepted into the 2015 Merola Program of San Francisco Opera and became an Adler Fellow the following year.  In 2018, she made debuts with New Zealand Opera and Washington National Opera and, more recently, with Opéra National de Bordeaux and Detroit Opera.  In 2019, she made her debut in France singing the title role in Manon at Opéra National de Bordeaux, receiving praise from the French press, including Le Monde which called her voice “beautiful and round.” The same year, she returned to the San Francisco Opera for her debut in the role of Juliette in Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette. Ms. Edris captivated audiences in 2022 as Cleopatra in the world premiere of John Adams’ Antony and Cleopatra at the opening of San Francisco Opera’s centennial season. In her Prague debut, she performed in a gala concert alongside her husband Pene Pati.
