Translations and commentary will be provided to help you more fully experience this glimpse into our musical heritage.
Hortus Deliciarum (Latin for Garden of Delights) was an illuminated encyclopedia begun in 1167 and finished almost two decades later. Intended as a teaching tool for novices at the Hohenburg Abbey, it was compiled by the abbess of Hohenburg, Herrad of Landsberg. Hortus Deliciarum is both the first encyclopedia believed to be written by a woman and one of the first sources from a convent that we have of polyphony—music with two or more simultaneous melodic lines.

Parking is available in our Green Learning Station parking lot, located at the corner of Oak Street and Reading Road. You can also park within Hauck Botanic Garden, either along June Street (which runs through the park) or on one of the paved parking pads.
We recommend parking in our Green Learning Station lot on the corner of Oak Street and Reading Road for those with limited mobility (enter from Oak Street). A ramp is located from the parking lot to the pathway on the right side of the main Civic Garden Center building as you face the building.
