Charandas Chor is a 1975 play by Habib Tanvir about a thief named Charandas who uses his charm to avoid the police. The play is based on folk traditions of Rajasthan and is similar to Robin Hood in style.

Charandas is a typical folk hero who robs the rich, such as gold plates, jewelry, and coins from a queen. However, he is also a humanitarian who never lies, and instead returns what he has taken. For example, after stealing from a wealthy merchant's wife, Charandas returns with all the loot because he can't see her cry. He then takes five vows before a guru, including never eating from golden plates, marrying a queen, or presiding over an elephant procession.

The guru then sets Charandas on his life's journey, where he eventually becomes famous in a kingdom. He is offered political power, but refuses it.

The local princess becomes enchanted with him and proposes to marry him, but he is put to death, illustrating the paradox of human existence where truthful existence is impossible.

The play is satirical and features catchy dialogue between the Chor and the Police.
