Why Shakespeare?

In-School Performance ; In-School Workshop/Class

Why Shakespeare? In this 45-minute interactive showcase, three professional actors from the CSC Touring Company answer a common question: “Why do we still study Shakespeare today?” Interesting facts about Shakespeare, audience participation, Shakespearian insults, scenes from A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, Comedy of Errors, Henry V and more are part of this comedic presentation. Appropriate for all ages.

Wild + Wacky Backgrounds with Neil Dignan

In-School Workshop/Class ; Summer Camps

Participants will look at the incredibly detailed work of Neil Dignan, noticing the lines and shapes that make up the patterns in his backgrounds. Students will draw a stylized portrait or self-portrait trying to capture their “essence” rather than reality. The backgrounds will be filled with exaggerated forms that frame the figure as the focal point, similar to Neil’s “The Lorax” inspired backdrops. William Shakespeare's Henry VI: The Wars of the Roses, Part 2

Field Trip

The History Cycle spirals towards its inevitable end in the penultimate chapter of Shakespeare’s greatest saga. Sides have been chosen and loyalties tested as the Wars of the Roses rage on. The houses of York and Lancaster contend for control of the kingdom, and in the midst of the chaos a certain hunch-backed hellion begins his infamous maneuverings to win the crown.

Wonderful Flowers with Curtis Davis

Community Workshop/Class ; In-School Workshop/Class

Participants will look at the paintings of Curtis Davis and discuss his use of thick paint and brushstrokes as well as the many layers of paint he applies to his work. After watching Curtis begin working on a new painting, students will create big, beautiful and vibrant flowers using acrylic and matboard. ArtWorks is a twenty-one-year old non-profit organization that creates job opportunities in the arts for artists of all ages. Teen, student, and emerging artists ages 14-21 are hired for summer and after-school jobs to apprentice with professional artists to create high-quality works of art for the entire region to experience and enjoy. ArtWorks projects help beautify our region and make a more livable city, encourage creative entrepreneurship, and empower those struggling with illnesses and overwhelming circumstances. Zentangle Animals with Neil Dignan

Explore the meditative drawing method of Zentangles that V+V Teaching Artist, Neil Dignan, has adopted into almost all of his work. Using repetitive lines and shapes, draw an animal that is enveloped by detailed pattern using sharpie, pen and pencil.
