This special event incorporates a multi-disciplinary approach to telling the story of Passover, using operatic performances and a fiber arts installation.
The Queen City Chamber Opera (QCCO), in partnership with the Mayerson JCC, presents The Exodus in Music and Art. This multi-faceted event features performances of Handel’s Israel in Egypt and original installation art, Exodus Redux, by local artist Deborah Brod. This celebration of the spirit of Passover explores artistic depictions of a journey toward freedom, justice, equality, and identity.
The two QCCO performances will serve as the Midwest premiere of Handel’s Israel in Egypt in its entirety. This one-of-a-kind, collaborative experience is created specifically for the Mayerson JCC. The performances will feature a 16-voice chamber choir and a 30-piece orchestra conducted by Isaac Selya. A projected slide show designed by Lizzy DuQuette with images inspired by the music will accompany the performances.
