Juneteenth Festival

Celebrate the End of Slavery

Come to Eden Park to celebrate the in-person return of Cincinnati’s Juneteenth Festival! This free event has two stages full of great music, children’s activities, historical re-enactors, horseback rides, shopping, art, food and more.

ChessTime, a new Cincinnati chess club, is staging its “First Annual Juneteenth Chess Tournament” at the festival. This promises fast-paced fun & competition for the players and entertainment for the rest of us. Cash prizes for the winners: 1st place: $1000, 2nd place: $500, 3rd place: $250. Chess tournament entree fee is $60.

Juneteenth Cincinnati began presenting the Juneteenth Festival in 1988. It began in Cincinnati’s Drake Park and in the early years moved to Eden Park at the invitation of the Park Board. The Festival celebrates the end of slavery in the U.S. in 1865 at the end of the Civil War and the continuing struggle over the ensuing years to achieve the full fruits of freedom. Although the 1988 Festival was not Cincinnati’s first celebration, it has been the only annual event.

Shuttle van service will be available from along Gilbert Avenue and into the Festival area.
