Ryan Speedo Green is quickly establishing himself as an artist in great demand at the world’s leading opera houses. A member of the Metropolitan Opera Lindemann Young Artist Development Program and 2011 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions Grand Finals Winner, Green returns to the Met in 2020-2021 for his fifth consecutive season, taking on four roles including Ferrando in Il trovatore and Commendatore in a new production of Don Giovanni. His orchestral appearances include Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at the Ravinia Festival, among others. Green received a 2014 George London Foundation Award, was a 2014 Annenberg grant recipient, a 2014 Gerda Lissner Foundation First Prize winner and received both the Richard and Sara Tucker Grants from the Richard Tucker Foundation. Sing for Your Life, by New York Times journalist Daniel Bergner, relates Green’s inspiring personal and artistic journey from a trailer park in southeastern Virginia – and time spent in a juvenile facility of last resort – to the Met stage. The book, and Green’s story, received acclaim and honors.
“Presiding over the whole drama, at beginning and end and at key moments along the way, was the imposing physical and vocal presence of bass-baritone Ryan Speedo Green.”
David Wright, New York Classical Review
